In this experiment, the two patients had a history of frequent palpitations.

They both were able to stop their palpitations by breathing at six breaths per minute.

After two months of relaxation training, both patients had fewer episodes of palpitations, and when they did experience palpitations, they were able to stop them by breathing at six breaths per minute.

Another study found that breathing at six breaths per minute reduced palpitations by as much as 50%, and in one patient, it eliminated palpitations entirely. So how can you replicate these results for yourself?

Both studies said that they had the patients breathe at six breaths per minute. Six breaths per minute is a pattern of inhaling for five seconds and exhaling for five seconds. In the study, they did the breathing exercise for at least one minute, but you may see better results by going for 5, 10, or 20 minutes.
