Researchers discovered you can stop heart palpitations with a simple breathing exercise.
If you are trying to stop heart palpitations, now you can.
Heart palpitations may feel like your heart is racing, pounding, fluttering, or skipping a beat.
While palpitations are usually not a sign of anything serious, they can be disturbing and make you worry about your health.
However, researchers have discovered a simple breathing exercise that can help reduce heart palpitations.
In two studies, a simple breathing exercise helped people reduce their palpitations by as much as 50%, and in some patients, the breathing helped stop heart palpitations entirely.
So how did they stop heart palpitations?
Let’s take a closer look at the 2 studies. First, let’s examine an article from the International Journal of Cardiology
Study 1: International Journal of Cardiology
In this experiment, the two patients had a history of frequent palpitations.
They both were able to stop their palpitations by breathing at six breaths per minute.
After two months of relaxation training, both patients had fewer episodes of palpitations, and when they did experience palpitations, they were able to stop them by breathing at six breaths per minute.
Study 2
Another study found that breathing at six breaths per minute reduced palpitations by as much as 50%, and in one patient, it eliminated palpitations entirely. So how can you replicate these results for yourself?
Both studies said that they had the patients breathe at six breaths per minute. Six breaths per minute is a pattern of inhaling for five seconds and exhaling for five seconds. In the study, they did the breathing exercise for at least one minute, but you may see better results by going for 5, 10, or 20 minutes.
How to stop heart palpitations at home
To help you maintain this pattern of inhaling for five seconds and exhaling for five seconds, I created a guided breathing exercise that you can use anytime you experience palpitations. It makes it really easy to breathe at the right pace.

By practicing this breathing exercise regularly, you may be able to reduce or eliminate your heart palpitations. However, if you continue to experience palpitations or have other concerning symptoms, it’s important to talk to your doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
Palpitations are usually benign, but ask your doctor about your heart palpitations. They may recommend an ECG to check your heart beat, which only takes a few minutes. If you have a good ECG but still get heart palpitations, this breathing exercise can help: Breathing Exercise For Heart Palpitations
